This holiday season, consider charitable giving

We hope you all had an excellent Thanksgiving full of family, friends, and unforgettable moments. The holidays are about giving and sharing, and anyone who cooked a full meal for a house full of loved ones understands the gift of full bellies. But a charitable heart extends beyond our families and friends.

Just a few months ago, Florida, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Bahamas were affected by the fiercest hurricane since 2005 – Hurricane Irma. Two weeks prior to that, Houston was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Many lost everything, but that doesn’t mean the holiday spirit should be lost for them.

Charitable giving goes a long way to help families get back on their feet and back in to their homes in time for the holidays. Organizations like the Red Cross, Samaritan’s Purse, and the Salvation Army work hard to ensure that everyone, especially victims of natural disasters, is included in the holiday spirit.

Here in Florida, organizations like Bridge to Hope, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Feeding South Florida, and the Early Learning Children’s Foundation are helping the most vulnerable community members find solace and safety after tragedy. While the storm has passed, the journey to rebuilding our communities has only just begun.

This year, consider donating or volunteering with a local non-profit to help members of your community. Even if you’re not in any of the areas affected by this year’s hurricanes, there are plenty of opportunities to help all over the city, the country and throughout the world. Even the smallest act of kindness shown to someone can change their entire existence, and at VIBE we’re all about that.

Let us not forget until EVERYONE can stand on their feet and is back home.
