One of the best parts of being in the MICE business is seemingly endless options for venues. With new hotels opening left and right, there are always fresh spaces to explore and plan the perfect events for our clients. Looking ahead to 2020, here are four recent or upcoming openings we’re especially excited about.
The Proper Hotel, Santa Monica
Opened in summer 2019, this 271-room luxury lifestyle hotel is primed to host amazing events next year. With striking interiors designed by Kelly Wearstler, it epitomizes California cool, located along Wilshire Boulevard and within walking distance to the beach. Its landmark restaurant, Onda, is a collaboration by two James Beard award-winning female chefs, can be rented for private events, and its new Surya Spa, opening this winter, will be an ideal space to reward incentive program attendees. The hotel also boasts 24,000 square feet of flexible meeting spaces, including a ballroom, four meeting rooms, courtyards, terraces and the area’s only rooftop deck with a pool and restaurant.
Celino South Beach, Miami
Following a massive $110 million renovation, this South Beach staple is set to reemerge as a luxury destination in early 2020. Among the focal points will be a glamorous horseshoe-shaped, indoor-outdoor cocktail bar, along with two restaurants—Pubblica and Dalia—which will serve Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, respectively. The 132 art deco-inspired, airy guest rooms evoke a tropical elegance aesthetic, and meeting spaces on property will include rental of the Pubblica lounge, restaurant and garden, along with the rooftop pool terrace and several other areas. While all the refreshed amenities will serve as major draws, it’s the historic hotel’s supreme location on Ocean Drive that will surely make this property a popular spot in 2020 and beyond.
Asbury Ocean Club Surfside Resort
The pool terrace at this new 17-story beachside hotel, opened this summer on the Jersey Shore and only a 75-minute drive from New York, is an unparalleled spot for outdoor events, with a bar and restaurant and breathtaking ocean views. Equally as beautiful is The Drawing Room, which features floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the pool garden and terrace and serves as part living room, part bar and part music room for guests. The gorgeous Ocean View Penthouse, which has its own wraparound terrace, along with a large living and dining room, can be rented for intimate private events, as well.
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas
This hotel brand by Richard Branson will have three hotels by the end of 2019: Chicago opened first several years ago, followed by San Francisco, and Dallas is coming soon. Three more are expected to open in 2020, with the most exciting for us being Las Vegas. Branson says the entertainment capital has always held a special place in his heart, so he’s looking forward to “painting the town red” in the brand’s signature color when Virgin Hotels Las Vegas opens in fall next year. The massive property, which is a conversion from the former Hard Rock Hotel, will feature more than 1,500 rooms, including Grand Chamber Suites and Penthouse Suites, plus multiple pools, restaurants, bars and lounges. Virgin Hotels’ flagship lounge, Commons Club—which mingles a work-play environment—will also compliment a range of meeting and event spaces on property.
